The 10 best Subreddits to follow if you want to get into self-hosting!

Are you looking to get into self-hosting, and want to get some inspiration or find new services to host? Reddit is a place where you can find and share almost anything you're looking for.

I've curated a list of the best Subreddits to follow if you want to get into self-hosting.

The list of Subreddits!

Here is my list of what I think are the best Subreddits to follow.

  • r/selfhosted - The most popular Subreddit focused on self-hosting. Trust me, you can find anything on here. People share new projects every single hour in this Subreddit, it's the place where I've found most of the services I've written an article about.
  • r/homelab - The place where techies and sysadmins share projects, labs, and builds! I've found many inspirations for server builds in this Subreddit!
  • r/docker - Although Docker is not only for self-hosting, people share some great projects and configurations in this Subreddit. It's also a great place to learn about Docker in general, almost every self-hosted service has a Docker image!
  • r/homeserver - A community of people sharing their knowledge about home servers. Definitely a great knowledge base.
  • r/linuxadmin - Just like r/docker, Linux admin is not just focused on self-hosting. But it's a good place to start learning Linux, the best OS for self-hosting!
  • r/sysadmin - A Subreddit similar tot r/linuxadmin, but focused on more than just Linux. You'll find things like Windows Servers, Linux Servers, DevOps, etc.
  • r/homenetworking - If you're starting to get into the more enterprise stuff, you're going to have to learn networking. This is a great Subreddit to ask for help!
  • r/homeassistant - Home assistant is a great piece of open-source software that allows for literally any type of home automation, all locally hosted! Think of anything and some person will have posted it on the Subreddit.
  • r/raspberry_pi - The place to learn about Raspberry Pi's! If you've just started to self-host, Raspberry Pi's are one of the best options for a first little server.
  • r/opensource - This Subreddit is filled with people sharing their open-source projects. Many of them are self-hostable!
